Illinois/Chicago Area Plastic Surgery Procedures:
Necklift (Platysmaplasty)
As stated in the section on facelifts, the neckline is often addressed concurrently via a facelift approach. This is most appropriate for patients with significant sagging/laxity of the neck tissues, prominent "banding" of the neck musculature (particularly upon grimacing), or loss of an acute angle between the undersurface of the jaw and anterior neck. During a necklift, or "platysmaplasty", the neck skin is elevated and tightened through the facelift incisions around the ears, and the banding or excess fatty tissue in the mid-neck may be tightened or removed via a small incision under the chin. This is commonly performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, but may require an overnight stay if performed in conjuction with a full facelift.

Case #1: 61 year-old Chicago-area woman who underwent formal face/neck lift; approximately 4 weeks post-op.

Case #2: 61 year-old Chicago-area woman who underwent formal face/neck lift; approximately 4 weeks post-op.
Younger patients with tighter skin but a full, poorly-defined neckline may be candidates for suction-assisted lipectomy in this area through three small incisions. This is often performed as an outpatient procedure under IV sedation.

Case #3: 52 year-old who underwent limited liposuction of the anterior neck area (approximately 100cc); 6 weeks post-op.
