Lake Forest Plastic Surgery is a practice that continues on in the storied tradition of its founder, O.P. Steinwald, MD, who established the practice in 1974, building it upon classic principles of compassion, integrity and very high standards of patient care. We are located on the North Shore of Chicago on the grounds of Lake Forest Hospital, and are one of the Chicago-area's longest-established plastic surgery practices, having served Lake Forest and surrounding Chicago-area communities (including Winnetka, Wilmette, Highland Park, Glencoe, Evanston, Libertyville, Waukegan, Gurnee, Grayslake, Barrington and Hinsdale) for over 30 years. We also serve many people from the Kenosha County and southern Wisconsin areas. Although we are becoming better-known for our superior cosmetic surgery results, Lake Forest Plastic Surgery is proud to remain a "general" plastic surgery practice, and we strive to provide the people of Lake/Cook Counties and surrounding regions with a full complement of aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. We derive great satisfaction from helping patients of all ages and from all walks of life with a wide variety of issues and needs, ranging from achieving harmony between one's appearance and self-image, to reconstructing or minimizing deformities resulting from trauma, malignancy or congenital abnormality.

"The Real Deal"
After O.P. Steinwald, MD, FACS retired in early 2006, his son Paul M. Steinwald, MD, who joined him in July of 2000, took over the practice, with a goal of modernizing the practice's surgical offerings as well as office space. Dr. Steinwald is a well-rounded Ivy League graduate, with a lifetime record of excellence and achievement. He took no short-cuts in his training, and is board-certified in both plastic surgery and general surgery (which means he has experience in recognizing and managing almost every kind of surgical problem, and helps qualify him to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Lake Forest Hospital). He is further distinguished by being one of the only plastic surgeons in Chicagoland who was trained on the West Coast, at the University of California, San Francisco. He has extensive experience in many modern surgical offerings, and believes in performing only rock-solid, evidence-based procedures that can predictably deliver soft, natural results, rather than largely unproven, gimmicky "procedures-du-jour".

Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Steinwald strongly believes in seeing his patients at each and every pre- and/or post-operative encounter. To this end, he makes himself as available and accessible as possible, especially during the recovery period, to monitor your recovery and directly address any questions or issues you may have. We therefore feel that Lake Forest Plastic Surgery further is further distinguished by the fact that we don't turn patient care over to nurses or assistants in the post-operative period. We know that there are few things worse in the surgical experience than the feeling of abandonment that can result when your surgeon is too busy to see you in the post-op period, and we schedule ourselves accordingly.
Don't Forget Paulette!
We are proud to have introduced our licensed aesthetician Paulette Vanko into the practice in the summer of 2005, to complement Dr. Steinwald's facial rejuvenation offerings. Paulette is a well-trained skin care professional who can advise on a variety of skin conditions, and is in charge of our Afterglow Aesthetic Skin Care Program. She performs non-invasive skin care procedures such as the Régenique Skin Rejuvenation System (basically microdermabrasion combined with an ultrasound facial), chemical peels and standard microdermabrasion or facials in the our on-site Room 3 Medi-spa. She also can recommend many medical-grade take-home products, to have your skin looking its healthiest.
