Illinois/Chicago Area Plastic Surgery Procedures:
Forehead Lift (Browlift)
Prominent wrinkles or "furrows" of the brow, accentuated by facial expression, are not uncommon with aging of the upper facial structures, and are often compounded in our patients by sun damage or stress. In women, the eyebrows ideally rest above the bony prominence, with lateral flaring upon raising the brow. In men the eyebrow is suppposed to be at or just above this ridge.
Patients who have a ptotic (or "drooping") brow, with wrinkles that are not amenable to Botox therapy (or who wish to have more permanent correction of the problem) may be candidates for a "browlift". This is usually performed endoscopically through small incisions, but may also be performed through longer transverse incisions at or above the hairline in appropriate candidates. In this procedure, the brow tissues are released and elevated/fixed vertically. Overactive musculature causing deep wrinkles may also be ablated via this approach. Browlifts are usually performed under general anethesia, and are often combined with other procedures such as a blepharoplasty or rhytidectomy.
