Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) Before/After Photo Set #1
This page demonstrates before-and-after eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty for some of our younger Chicago-area plastic surgery patients at Lake Forest Plastic Surgery.
During an upper bpepharoplasty (which can be perfomed under light "conscious sedation" administered by Dr. Steinwald, at a greatly reduced cost), the surgeon trims away excess skin or bulging fat, with the goal of eliminating heavy-looking upper lids and leaving the patient with a "refreshed" look. (Finer periorbital wrinkles or "crow's feet" are not significantly improved by this procedure, however; please see the sections on Laser Resurfacing or Botox injections.)
Lower lid blepharoplasty (demonstrated in the third set of photos) is somewhat more involved, and usually is performed under heavier sedation. Great care must be taken not to overresect skin or pull the lid down in an unnatural manner. Nevertheless, in good candidates, the elimination of lower lid bags and general smoothing effect can be quite dramatic.
Most patients experience very little discomfort after a blepharoplasty, although swelling and bruising can last 1-2 weeks. Sutures are usually removed at 4-5 days, and lighter make-up can be worn at one week.
