Collagen Injection

Finer facial wrinkles, and some superficial (shallow) depressed or pitted scars may be amenable to resurfacing by collagen injection. Purified bovine collagen is usually used, and before injecting this in a cosmetically sensitive area such as the face, a small test-dose is placed in the skin of the arm to test for sensitivity or reactivity. If the patient tolerates this, it can then be injected into the finer wrinkles of the face as an office-based procedure. Not uncommonly, several injections are needed at several-month intervals to achieve the desired result, since partial resorption of initial doses may take place. (We charge per the syringe-full, not per session, however.)
